Borrowing from other Dances with Irina and Matt Drawing from their extensive backgrounds in various dance forms, Irina and Matt will teach you how to borrow from other dance forms to enrich your Lindy Hop. In this class we will highlight how awareness of different techniques, textures, and structures found in different dances can contribute to the development of your own dance style. Playing with Rhythms with Ryan Tired of defaulting to the exact same footwork every time you swing out? It’s time to shuffle the deck. Using a custom set of “Rhythm Cards,” we’ll break away from the standard eight counts and experiment with mixing and matching rhythms on the fly. Whether you’re a newer dancer focusing on confident weight shifts or a veteran hunting for syncopations, this class will give you a foolproof, highly playful framework for breaking your own habits.

What are we even dancing to? A Practical Guide to Musicality with Ryan We all know we’re supposed to “dance to the music,” but what happens when you aren’t entirely sure what you’re actually listening to? In this class, we’ll pull back the curtain on the anatomy of swing music, exploring the hidden structures and patterns of the songs we love. Stop guessing what the band is about to do, and start having an actual conversation with them. Absolutely no music degree required.
